This is a brilliant and at the same time, for most people, probably not “every-day” book. It beautifully shows step by step instructions with photos on how to eat so called Cha-Kaiseki at a tea ceremony. The light meal before a tea ceremony is a complicated process with lots of formalities and can be seen as the mother of modern Kaiseki cuisine. I find it extremely interesting to see where it all started and what the differences between Kaiseki and Cha-Kaiseki are. When I attend a tea ceremony refreshing my memory on what to do when definetely helps tremendously as well.
I am adding a link to the book here. For transparency I want to tell you that I might earn a small comission (at no additional cost to you) from qualifying purchases as an Amazon associate. You can actually order things directly from Amazon Japan if you can’t find them on your own country’s page! You just need to log into Amazon Japan with your usual username and password and put your home adress in. It will automatically calculate shipping costs and customs taxes (if needed) so you don’t get any nasty surprises. I have personally gotten a lot of stuff from Japan this way when I wasn’t living here.
If you want to know more about what Kaiseki even is you should definetly check out the link below (spoiler: there are different types that even have different characters – you just can’t tell by the alphabet spelling alone)
